If your lash lifts are falling flat just days after application, you're not alone—and it’s not always your fault. The truth? Most beauty courses don’t dive deep enough into retention. But after years of training students and seeing what actually works in salon settings, here’s what you need to know.
1. You're Over- or Underprocessing Without Realizing It
Each lash type processes differently. Fine lashes may only need 6–8 minutes for solution 1, while thick, coarse lashes can need up to 14. Most artists stick to a “one-size-fits-all” timing chart—but this causes either limp results or frizzed lashes.
Pro Tip: Always assess the lash type first. Look for curl resistance, lash density, and elasticity before choosing your timing.
2. You're Not Wrapping Properly
The way lashes are placed on the shield is everything. If they’re not fully tensioned, overlapped, or crisscrossed, the lift won’t hold evenly—and some lashes will stay straight.
Solution: Use a flexible adhesive that allows adjustments and dries tacky (like our Lash Lift Flex Glue), and always work in small sections with a lift tool or Y-comb for precision.
3. Your Shields Are the Wrong Size
Shields too big? You’ll get a soft curl. Too small? Over-curling or lash damage. The shield needs to match both eye shape, lash direction and lash length.
Try This: Our Mia Pro Flex Shields & Katya Vinog come in multiple sizes and softness levels to hug the lid perfectly while helping you wrap evenly. (these are my go to shields for consistent results)
4. You’re Missing the Final Step: Keratin & Nourishment
Think of this like a deep conditioner post-lightening. After lifting, lashes are vulnerable. Without rehydration, they weaken and droop faster.
Our Go-To: The Standout Keratin Conditioning Treatment nourishes and locks in the curl while strengthening the hair shaft + extends the life of the lift.
5. You’re Not Giving Clients the Right Aftercare
Oil-based cleansers, sleeping face-down… all of these kill retention. Give clients a mini aftercare card or text reminder after each service.
